Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh Mark Independence Day with Security and Ceremonies

Punjab, Haryana, and their shared capital,
Chandigarh, commemorated Independence Day under stringent security measures.
Flag hoisting ceremonies were conducted across district
headquarters and other locations. In Chandigarh, Punjab Governor and Union
Territory Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria raised the national flag, while
Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya did the same in Yamunanagar. Punjab Chief
Minister Bhagwant Mann unfurled the tricolour in Jalandhar, and Haryana Chief
Minister Nayab Singh Saini performed the flag hoisting in Kurukshetra.
At Jalandhar's Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Chief Minister
Mann inspected the parade and reviewed the march past. In his speech marking
the 78th Independence Day, Mann paid tribute to martyrs, including the freedom
fighter Bhagat Singh. He highlighted his government's efforts to enhance canal
water usage for irrigation, establish Schools of Eminence, increase the number
of mohalla clinics offering free medical care, and provide over 44,000
government jobs.
Mann also reported the arrest of 14,381 individuals involved
in drug trafficking and the registration of 10,394 drug-related cases over the
past two and a half years. He announced plans to create 10,000 new positions
within the police department.
Meanwhile, in Kurukshetra, Chief Minister Saini honored the
contributions of freedom fighters to India’s Independence.
