Ludhiana 29 Oct 2024
Environment and Swachh Society celebrated Green Diwali at Govt. College for Girls, Ludhiana. A marketing fest aiming to develop business skills among girls which helps them in becoming a self-reliant was also held. The event commenced with a diya lighting ceremony, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. Mrs. Suman Lata, Principal of the college was the chief guest. This inaugural gesture set a warm, inviting tone for the activities that followed. The event unfolded with a series of thoughtfully organized programs, highlighting unity and cultural heritage. Faculty members and students actively participated, creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere that embodied the spirit of the occasion.
The environment and Swacch society organized three events to promote eco-friendly festive practices: a poster-making competition on the theme “Say No to Crackers,” a diya-making competition, and a Rangoli-making competition. The students set up various stalls including earthen lamps, decorative items such as frames related to mandala art, nail art, bags, purses, jewellery, food items like biscuits and cakes etc.
Principal, Mrs. Suman Lata said that the greatest need of the present time is that we should preserve our environment and leave such a legacy for the future generations in which they can breathe. We ourselves should celebrate Green Diwali and inspire others too. She further said that these competitions inspired students to embrace eco-friendly materials for decorations, reminding everyone that small choices, like using organic colors, can make a significant difference.
