in Punjab
Hoshiarpur, August 11 — A tragic accident occurred on
Sunday when ten members of a family from Himachal Pradesh were swept away by a
sudden flood while traveling in an SUV to a wedding in Nawanshahr, Punjab. The
vehicle was carried away by the rising waters of a rivulet near Jejon town in
the Mahilpur block of Hoshiarpur district.
Out of the 11 people in the SUV, only the driver was
rescued; the remaining ten drowned. The family, led by Deepak Bhatia from Dehra
near Mehatpur in Una district, included his father Surjeet Bhatia, mother
Paramjeet Kaur, uncle Sarup Chand, aunts Bandar and Shino, as well as his
daughters Bhavna (18) and Anku (20), and son Harmeet (12).
The incident occurred as the SUV crossed the Himachal border

by the strong current. Emergency services and police are currently on the
scene.
