Jet Accidentally Drops Ammunition Near
Pokhran; Investigation Underway

In an unusual
incident on Wednesday, an Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jet accidentally
released its onboard ammunition near the Pokhran firing range in Rajasthan.
According to the IAF, the mishap occurred due to a technical malfunction. The
aircraft had departed from an IAF base in Rajasthan. The ammunition involved,
known as 'air stores' in IAF terminology, can include guided missiles or bombs.
An investigation into the incident has been launched by the IAF. Fortunately,
no damage to life or property has been reported. The Pokhran firing ranges,
located in western Rajasthan about 100 km from the Pakistan border, are used
for air exercises and testing of new equipment by the IAF.
