CHANDIGARH: Ahead of next year's Assembly elections,
Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has taken up the issue of tampering with
the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). Earlier, the Aam Aadmi Party had often
raised the issue of tampering with EVMs. Now the Congress has also given a new
twist to the issue by voicing fears of tampering with EVMs.
While counting his achievements, Chief Minister Capt
Amarinder Singh on Thursday said that he was one of the leaders in opposing the
Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) as it could be tampered with. He claimed that
he had once proved this to the Election Commission.
The captain said that even developed countries like
Japan, Sweden and UK do not use EVMs. He advocated for elections through ballot
papers. The Captain's claim will give a further impetus to the EVM voting
campaign. Currently, there is a campaign by some parties in the country that
EVMs may be hacked. That is why elections often lead to surprising results.
In fact, there was talk of hacking EVMs in the country
after the BJP's winning streak began in the past. Although the Election
Commission had ruled out any such possibility, many political parties and
organizations had hacked live EVMs. In the country, the demand for holding
elections only through ballot papers is constantly rising.
